One of Crewsouth’s biggest shoots of the COVID era was kicking off the Democratic National Convention's Live Virtual Roll Call vote.       The virtual event was an alternative to the risk of a typical crowded political convention.  We worked with Rep. Terri Sewell (of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District) to kick off all of the states’ and territories’ delegate count.  Crewsouth coordinated the lighting of the famous Edmud Pettus Bridge, the scenic drone flyover footage, and the live shot (with prompter and LiveU LU400) for the Congresswoman.  All of this was done safely, outside, with proper protocols followed.

Recently, we had an opportunity to film a virtual production with Usher and the Global Citizen award recipient, Bryan Stevenson, in honor of his work with the Equal Justice Initiative.  We were on location with Mr. Stevenson at EJI in Montgomery, Alabama filming on a 9’x20’ green screen.  Usher was in a remote location interviewing Stevenson via a Zoom call through a laptop.     To make this happen, every detail had to be pre-produced.  We took exact measurements for camera placements, lighting, and matched focal lengths with the other crew so that Stevenson’s placement alongside Usher would look authentic.   We provided the team of producers with…

With the challenges of Covid, Crewsouth was called by IBML, the information capture and manufacturing technology company based in Irondale, Alabama, to help produce a series of “virtual roadshows” via Zoom.  Crewsouth provided full service production design of the virtual event including: video content production for video roll ins, set design, lighted set elements, multicamera live switching, and stage management for several hour-long presentations livestreamed to IBML’s clients in the US as well as international locations.   Crewsouth uses Blackmagic Design switchers and broadcast decks for professional, yet portable, live on-location video production and streaming. The Dana Dolly is a great tool for creating moving shots without the expense and logistical issues of a traditional camera dolly. Crewsouth’s live shot studio is used all of the time by news and sports networks such as CNN, ESPN, HLN, NFL Network, The Weather Channel, and NBC News. Our new 75 inch HD television monitor allows us to display any image or background at any network’s request. Crewsouth streams the video over a high-speed fiber connection by using LTN Global, which allows television networks all over the world to use our studio for live shots and video feeds.  

Crewsouth went to the Alabama Gulf Coast to visit the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. We worked with Alabama Public Television and the University of Alabama for the nature documentary series Discovering Alabama. The picture is from a slow motion shoot from around the Gulf of Mexico and the Mobile Bay. This lightning strike appeared for only one frame! The video is from 4K footage shot with the Sony PXW-FS7.  

Crewsouth regularly works as ENG news crews for all of the television networks throughout the south. Crewsouth was in Nashville, Tennessee as the camera crew for NBC News and The Today Show. We were right on the red carpet at the CMT Awards, interviewing some of country music’s biggest names. NBC’s fashion correspondent Lilliana Vasquez talked to Florida Georgia Line, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, and Tim McGraw and about their nominations, awards, as well as their bold fashion choices.
